BeLonG To works within the Youth Work Sector in Ireland to ensure that LGBT young people are better included in the provision of services and in the development of policy.

In 2008 BeLonG To was invited, through the National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI), to join the The National Youth Work Advisory Committee (NYWAC) – which advises the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs on the direction of services and policy for young people in Ireland.

Within this structure we have been centrally involved in producing STOP Homophobic Bullying! Guideline for the Youth Sector, and have promoted Equality in youth work through the Equality and Interculturalism Subgroup.

Working with the Office for the Ministrer for Children and Youth Affairs, NYWAC, the IVEA and the NYCI, BeLonG To has promoted the embedding Equality in the Youth Sector.

In 2009 the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Barry Andrews TD, launched BeLonG To's Strategic Plan and called on his Office's Children's and Young People's Forum to priotise actions to combat homophobic bullying.  In an interview with the Irish Times he said: "Homophobic bullying is widespread and must be tackled."
