Hello! We support lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender young people in Ireland.
Feel free to look around
This national campaign began in 2006 as a programme at BeLonG To. Through a process of Critical Social Education with the Youth Work Team, young people decided that because they weren’t being fully supported around homophobic bullying in school they wanted to do something about it themselves. This became the largest LGBT campaign of any kind in Ireland, and one driven by young people.
The campaign was run in partnership with the Equality Authority with the support of the major educational partners in Ireland. The Campaign was launched by Minister for State at the Department of Education, Ms. Shíle DeValera you can read a copy of her address at the launch of the campaign here.
BeLonG To’s advocacy campaigns were highlighted in National Youth Council of Ireland's Active Youth Participation publication (2008), as case study of best practice. IN 2009, a Committee of the Council of Europe listed the Stop Homophobic Bullying in Schools campaign as a ‘Good Practice’ in addressing LGBT inequality in schools.
One of the most significant aspects of this campaign is that it was supported and endorsed by many of the key stakeholders in the area.
Supporting and Endorsing Organisations
As part of the Stop Homophobic Bullying in Schools campaign a number of different resources were including posters for display in schools and a handy information booklet entitled 'Making Your School Safe'.
Make your school LGBT friendly and inclusive.
