Hello! We support lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender young people in Ireland.
Feel free to look around
Our direct youth service works with Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual and Transgender (LGBT) young people between the ages of 14 to 23.
The service operates in the city centre from our own dedicated youth space (Parliament Street, Dublin 2), and from Outhouse the LGBT community centre on Capel Street, Dublin 1. The aim of the service is to provide a safe, positive and fun environment in which to address issues young people experience in their lives. Peer education is enabled through youth leaders facilitating programmes through exploration, development and learning empowering young people to act as agents of positive social change. Groups are facilitated throughout the week with the largest meeting on a Sunday allowing young people from all over Ireland and the peripheral Dublin counties to attend.
The service operates with the critical social education model of youthwork. This model of youthwork has the positive intention of transferring power to the young people who use the service. The young people are actively engaged in identifying, exploring and understanding issues of concern to them, and the relationship youthworkers have with the participants is undertaken with a view to engaging with them as partners. On a practical level young people are trained in a variety of skills, with specific leadership skills imparted to youth leaders. These youth leaders in turn facilitate groups of young people on issues of their choice that are affecting their development both social and educational.
The main intervention with young people is through direct group work. We also work one to one with young people who have a specific issue they want to address with the intention of involving them in a group, referring them to counselling or specific service, or working with them for a time on self development or issues of coming out and self esteem. Young people access the service through the website, through word of mouth and through resources produced by young people here which have been disseminated nationwide.
Make your school LGBT friendly and inclusive.
