Artist Spotlight: Bronagh Lee, Bisexual Visibility Day 2025

What does Bi Visibility Day Mean To You?

To me, Bi visibility means the opportunity to spotlight bisexual people across the spectrum, shining a light on our experiences because they are often forgotten about both in and outside of the LGBTQ+ community. There is still a lot of biphobia and bisexual erasure and Bi Visibility Day is an opportunity to push back on misinformation and harmful stereotypes about bisexuality as well as a time for bisexuals to come together and celebrate their identities.

Tell us about the piece you’ve created for Bi Visibility Day

I created a piece of a group of friends flying a kite, I thought of a butterfly when I was thinking about bisexuality to represent and encourage bi people to take pride in their identity and to not let biphobia keep them from spreading their wings!

What do you hope LGBTQ+ young people will take from this piece?

That it’s okay to be themselves. People often think of bisexuality as a phase or as a wishy washy identity but it isn’t, it is a valid identity and bisexual young people know who they are and know themselves better than anyone else.

Do you think art can bring communities together?

Absolutely no yes, I think art is a language that everyone can speak and it’s an amazing way to connect to people and show our humanity. Art is a great way to inspire people to use their voice and stand up for themselves and others collectively or as individuals.

How do you use your art to share positive messages of hope?

I like to create worlds that I want to live in with my art, and to make it feel possible that these worlds can exist. In these worlds people lift each other up, celebrate differences, and show one another compassion and kindness.
