What’s the Youth Advisory Panel?
It’s a group of LGBTQ+ young people aged 16 to 23 who come together to make real change happen. Think of it as building your skills in activism, campaigning and advocacy while working towards a society where LGBTQ+ young people are equal, safe and thriving.
As part of the Youth Advisory Panel (YAP), you’ll work with other LGBTQ+ young people from across Ireland on campaigns, education, research and youth work.
With Belong To’s support, you’ll:
- Advocate for yourself and other LGBTQ+ young people
- Make sure LGBTQ+ voices are heard in decisions that affect your lives
- Drive positive change for our communities in Ireland and beyond
- Focus on the issues you care about and make an impact
What will you actually do?
Everything we do comes from the real experiences of LGBTQ+ young people. As a panel member, you might:
Help with National Campaigns
We run campaigns each year, and the YAP advises us on messages and helps us to make content.

How does it work?
The panel is made up of LGBTQ+ people aged 16-23 from all over Ireland. You’ll be supported by two Belong To staff members – the policy & participation coordinator and youth participation worker.
We meet about eight times a year – half online, half in person. The online meetings last about 90 minutes and focus on building a specific skill (for example: writing, public speaking, or campaigning). The in-person meetings are longer, and usually involve more in-depth workshops and consultations, as well as the chance to spend time with other YAP members. We will always do our best to schedule these meetings around school/college breaks.
Don’t worry about travel costs from outside Dublin — we’ll cover those for in-person meetings.
Between meetings, we’ll keep you updated about opportunities like interviews, events, research and campaigns.
What are the benefits of joining Belong To’s Youth Advisory Panel?
What’s expected?
Come to at least five of the eight meetings throughout the year and stay connected by email so you’re up to date with campaigns and opportunities.
