Join Belong To at this in-person event in Dublin or Cork on looking after your LGBTQ+ child, protecting your relationship with them and caring for your own wellbeing.
This event is a safe, welcoming space to ask questions, share experiences and feel supported, with a community of other parents and caregivers.
Who
This event for parents, guardians or caregivers of an LGBTQ+ young person will be delivered by Dr Ray O’Neill, Assistant Professor of Psychotherapy at Dublin City University.
What
At the events, we will cover:
- Understanding LGBTQ+ identities and lives
- Emerging challenges for LGBTQ+ young people in Ireland today
- Practical strategies to support your child
- Creating affirming and inclusive spaces at home to support your child’s identity and self-esteem
- Building a network and community of parents and guardians of LGBTQ+ young people
- Highlight other LGBTQ+ support organisations and resources in Ireland
We will also provide open space to ask questions and host discussion.
When:
- Dublin City Centre – Saturday, 18 October, 12pm to 4pm
- Cork City Centre – Sunday, 2 November, 12pm to 4pm
- Venues confirmed once registered

About Dr Ray O’Neill
Assistant Professor of Psychotherapy at Dublin City University. He also runs a private Psychotherapeutic practice, working primarily, though not only, with LGBTQ+ clients.
Known as one of Ireland’s few male ‘agony aunts,’ Ray regularly appears on The Ray D’Arcy Show and co-hosted RTÉ’s Then Comes Marriage. Through his media work, he explores modern conversations about love, dating relationships and sexuality.
